Summary
I finally got an original Kenner model X-Wing and it was, of course, broken. The R2 unit on top is used as a switch for the X-Wings had a cracked post on the inside and this part is necessary for the correct functioning of opening and closing of the wings.
Here is a perfect replacement. The post on the inside is slightly undersized so that it fits inside the recess of the blue clip. You'll understand what this means when you take it apart.
Ready for paint. Print as shown with tree supports touching buildplate if you're using an FDM. Mine came out well at 0.12 level height at 50 mm/s

Print as shown- right side up - with Tree supports touching buildplate. No raft, no brim should be necessary. This printed in about 1 hr 17 minutes at 50 mm/s on an Ender 3 Pro.
