This is my small contribution to the Billington Repairs "DIY Laser Power Meter"
All the credit and instructions for the laser meter can be found on Nick and Joe's site here:
https://billingtonrepairs.wordpress.com/projects/a-simple-diy-laser-power-meter-for-minidisc-decks/
There is a Post in the MiniDisc repair group here with a demo of the unit in action

This "thing" is a frame to house the optical sensor and a 4 Pin FFC ribbon cable to allow you to use the Laser Power Meter with portable MiniDisc players. The concept is that the ribbon cable is thin enough to allow you to close the door. The reason for offset setting the ribbon cable from the centre is to allow for the latch on the most portable units to close, making it easier and safer to test the laser in your device.
This is probably more about the idea than the actual "thing," as I imagine you will need to adjust this for your application / MiniDisc case. I have only opened up a few Minidisc (its normally a destructive process as most are glued together) and although similar the dimension slightly vary so you will probably need to do a bit of grinding to get this to fit in your MiniDisc case.
The parts you will need are
sourcing map FPC FFC PCB Converter Board 4P 1.0mm on Socket Side

sourcing map Flexible Flat Cable,150mm 1mm Pitch 4 Pins

Enamelled Copper Wire,0.3mm

The copper board on which the optical sensor will be mounted needs to be cut to approximately 20x15mm
Post-Printing
This is the "Thing" printer and positioned into a Sony MiniDisc, Note the namelled copper wire running between the sensor and FFC board. I drilled holes through the copper board and ran the wires through to the other side where the sensor is mounted. The sensor is mounted on two copper strips running the lengeth of the PCB, this allowed me to mount the sensor in the "sweet" spot. I then use hot glue to secure everything in place.

Here you can see the sensor mounted on the PCB, I put it on the inner track of the MiniDisc so that when the laser sled is in the home location you can get a laser power reading without having to move the sled.

Fully assessbled, note I had to grind a cut out in the top of the disc case to allow the ribbon cable to be removed/attached.
