I designed this weather-resistant enclosure for a SimpliSafe (version 3) entry sensor because I have a pole barn with metal walls which prevents me from putting the entry sensor on the inside of the door. I can’t believe that SimpliSafe (or some enterprising person) hasn’t already created a weather-resistant/weatherproof enclosure for the entry sensor.
The roof piece is very likely superfluous, but I figured why not? I don’t see any need to protect the magnet side of the sensor since there are no electronics in there. I’d highly recommend using screws to secure both sides of the sensor to the door and door frame. If you’ve lost your screws, SimpliSafe support tells me that the screws are 1/8” X 1/4”, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to go to 1/8” X 1/2” for the screws securing the larger piece to the door frame.
I used drywall anchors to create a “reusable” hole to screw the 3D printed piece to the doorframe, since it will need to be removed whenever a battery change is necessary. (I messed up the positioning of the bottom screw and then broke a bit of it off. If you aren’t an idiot like me, your install will look cleaner.)
Finally I highly recommend using PETG since this is outside. Definitely not PLA if it’s in any sunlight.
Good luck!
